On Tuesday, April 1st, Congressman Dan Maffei (24th Congressional District of New York state – region near Syracuse, NY) toured CHESS and visited with CHESS users, graduate students, and post-docs. The tour highlighted Cornell’s innovative accelerator and insertion device technology, the unique x-ray capabilities of CHESS’s experimental stations, and brief presentations of the diverse science coming out of CHESS. Congressman Maffei has a deep interest in science, sits on the House Science Committee, and is the ranking member of its Subcommittee on Oversight.
CHESS User Karin Limburg (SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry) shows Congressman Dan Maffei how CHESS’s fluorescence mapping capabilities produce 2D chemical maps of fish ear stones that enable her to monitor the water quality of bodies of water such as Onondaga Lake near Syracuse, NY.
