X-RAY RUNS: Apply for Beamtime

Continuing on with upgrades to the safety controls for CHESS beamlines, the new A1 Station controls are ready for the first run of 2016. The upgraded controls are similar to the A-Line controls and consists of a PLC driven touch screen interface which controls the station beam stops, and shows the status of the safety interlock devices for the station. The screen and PLC are connected to the CHESS controls and data network, which allows the status of other networked equipment to be displayed. At the A1 station, users and staff can now see the status of upstream beamline components to aid in beamline setup. While the PLC and touch screen run software to control and monitor the beamline, the core safety logic is hardwired in custom pc boards with relay logic. The new controls should increase reliability, provide users and staff with more information, as well as aid in future automation of experiments.
